Getting Started

• Download the App
• TradeMe is free on Android and iOS.
• Create an account or Log In
• Sign up by tapping the profile icon, then use email, Facebook, or Google to register.
• Log in if you already have a Trade Me account.

Services and Features

Navigating Trade Me

Home Screen

This screen displays a mix of featured listings and popular categories such as:

• For Sale
• Cars
• Property
• Jobs
• Services
• Community
• Motors

Search Bar

• At the top of the screen, you can type in what exactly you’re looking for. 

Navigation Menu (hamburger menu)

• Tap the 3 horizontal lines in the top-left corner to open the main navigation menu. 
• This includes options such as:
  • My Trade Me (settings, listings)
  • Messages
  • Watchlist (items saved for later)
  • Bidding History
  • Saved Searches
  • Trade Me Help (customer support)

Buying

Browse and Search

• Search results will show up by relevance, or you can sort by other options.
• Item Details: Tap on an item to see more detailed information on it.

Bidding on Auctions

• Tap the “place a bid” button, and you’ll be asked to enter the amount you want to bid. 
• Reserve Price is the minimum price the seller is willing to accept. 
• Auto-Bid: If you set a maximum bid, the system will automatically raise your bid until it reaches your set limit.

Buy Now Listings

• Some sellers list a “Buy Now” price, bypassing the auction, and immediately purchasing at a fixed price. 

Watchlist Items:

• If you are unsure about an item or want to keep track of an auction, tap the heart icon to save it to the watchlist.

Selling

Creating a Listing

• Tap the “Sell” button
• Choose the appropriate category for the item, and create a title & description.
• Add high-quality photos.
• Choose between an Action or Buy Now.  An auction requires a reserve price, and buy now requires a fixed price.
• Specify the location of your option and offer shipping options. 

Manage Listings

• My Trade Me: manage listing with... Edit your listing
  • Track bids and offers
  • Respond to potential buyers
  • Mark the item as sold

Messaging and Communication

Trade Me Messages

• Contact the seller to ask questions before making a bid or purchase. 
• Track messages to reference later. 
• Negotiate pricing with buyers and sellers.

Safety Tips

• Fraud Prevention: Use Trade Me’s secure payment system, and be wary of sellers/buyers wanting to meet outside of the platform or use untraceable payment methods.
• Shipping: Ensure you understand the seller’s shipping policies and keep records of the transaction.
• Inspect Items: For local purchases, look at the items before committing.
